On This Day In 2000, Martin Palermo scored two quick goals(3', 6') as Boca Juniors beat Real Madrid 2-1 to win the Toyota European South American Cup(officially known as the intercontinental Cup). It was given the aforementioned name due to sponsorship reasons. Roberto Carlos' 12th minute strike turned out to be a mere consolation. Prior to the game, Real Madrid were the winners of the 1999/2000 UEFA Champions League while Boca Juniors were the winners of the 2000 Copa Libertadores
