On This Day In 1969, 29-year-old Santos striker Edson Arantes do Nascimento, commonly known as "Pelé" scored the 1000th goal of his career(club and country), netting the winner in a 2-1 win over Vasco da Gama at Maracaña Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The goal, was dubbed "O Milésimo" (The Thousandth). By the time he retired in 1977, Pelé had scored a record-setting 1,281 goals. While some critics claim that several of the goals should not count because they were scored in friendlies, FIFA nevertheless recognizes Pelé's 1,281 goals as the most ever scored by a professional footballer. 

On This day In 1995, 38-year-old Coventry City goalkeeper Steven Ogrizovic made his 100th Premier League appearance in a 1-1 draw against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road. At the time, he was the oldest player to reach the milestone in the competition's history. Before joining the Sky Blues(a nickname for Coventry City) in 1984, Ogrizovic had previously played for Chesterfield,  Liverpool and Shewsbury Town.

On This Day In 1995, Gianluigi Buffon(aged 17 years, 295 days) made his Serie A debut for Parma Calcio, keeping a clean sheet in a 0–0 home draw against AC Milan. In all, he kept 39 Clean Sheets in 168 Serie A games for Parma. Currently playing for Juventus, Buffon has now kept 294 clean sheets(the most in the league's history) in 645 Serie A appearances(Parma and Juventus, the second highest in the league's history, behind compatriot Paolo Maldini who has 647).

On This Day In 2005, 24-year-old Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, commonly known as "Ronaldinho" scored two superb goals as FC Barcelona thrashed rivals Real Madrid 3-0 in an El Clásico game played at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. With this, Ronaldinho became the second Barcelona player, after Diego Maradona in 1983, to receive a standing ovation from Real Madrid fans at the Santiago Bernabéu.
