He played as a striker for the likes of Leicester City, Everton, Barcelona, Tottenham and Nagoya Grampus.

He spent seven years with Leicester City(1978-1985), netting 103 goals in 209 games(Leicester City's 7th all-time highest goalscorer), also winning the 1982/1983 Old English Second Division top scorer award. He was also a member of the Foxes' squad who won the Football League Second Division in 1980.

At Tottenham Hotspur, he scored 80 goals 138 games between 1989 to 1992, also winning two trophies

At international level, he is England's third all-time highest goalscorer with 48 goals in 80 caps. He played five games in the 1986 World Cup and was top scorer of the tournament with six goals, winning the Golden Boot , making him the first English player to have done so. He scored the second quickest hat-trick ever at a FIFA World Cup tournament against Poland, the second English player to score a hat-trick at a World Cup. He finished second at the 1986 Ballon d'Or. Even though he enjoyed a long career, he never received a yellow or red card. As a result, he was honoured in 1990 with the FIFA Fair Play Award. He holds England's record for goals in the FIFA World Cup finals, with 10 scored.

Since his retirement from football in 1994, he has worked as a football pundit for so many media outfits, Including BBC.

He played as a Defensive midfielder for the likes Ajax, Hamburger SV, Manchester City, AC Milan, LA Galaxy, Galatasaray, Mainz 05 and Al Ahli

With Manchester City(2009-2012), he scored twice in 137 games. He won three trophies with the Citizens, including the 2011/2012 English Premier League title.

At international level, he scored once(vs Iceland, 6 June 2009) in 81 caps for the Netherlands. He was also a member of the "Oranje"(a nickname for Netherlands) squad that finished second and third at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups. In the final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup which the Netherlands lost 1–0 to Spain(after extra time). In the early stages of the match, he made a chest high challenge on Xabi Alonso, with his studs making contact with the Spaniard's ribs. Referee Howard Webb later stated that he would have sent him off if he'd had a better view of the incident.

He currently plays for Qatari club Al-Shahania.

Nigel de Jong is 35 today.
