On This Day In 2005, 18-year-old Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini scored his first Champions League goal for FC Barcelona in a 5-0 win over Greek side Panathinaikos FC. Messi is currently the second highest goalscorer in the competition's history, behind Cristiano Ronaldo.
