THE IMPORTANCE OF A MANAGER

On This Day In 2014, Marc Pugh scored a hat-trick as AFC Bournemouth humbled managerless(manager Lee Clark and assistant Steve Watson had been sacked five days earlier) Birmingham City 8-0 in an English Championship game played at St. Andrew's. Tokelo Rantie scored a brace, the first a penalty. Matt Ritchie, Brett Pitman and Callum Wilson were also in target for the visitors. It was the first time that the Cherries had ever scored eight goals in a league game (barring a 10-0 win over Northampton in September 1939 which was expunged from the records after World War II broke out the next day), while they also recorded their biggest winning margin in a league fixture. To date, this remains the Blues'(a nickname for Birmingham) worst home defeat in history.
