REMEMBERING BIG SAM
Happy Birthday to former Bolton Wanderers, Millwall, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Huddersfield Town, Limerick, Coventry City, Preston North End and Sunderland Defender Samuel Allardyce who turns 65 today. In his entire career, he scored a total of 42 goals in 578 games, including two spells at Bolton Wanderers. As a manager, Allardyce has managed the likes of Bolton Wanderers, Sunderland, Limerick, Newcastle, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham United, Blackpool, England, Crystal Palace and Everton. He won his first and only game in charge of England on 4 September 2016, beating Slovakia 1-0 in a 2018 World Cup qualifier match. Allardyce lasted 67 days as England as manager, the shortest for a Three Lions permanent manager. Despite having been out of football management for a full season, in July 2019 Allardyce had the opportunity to return to Newcastle United as their manager, but he turned it down.
