HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CHELSEA'S WORST SIGNING

As a Defender he played for the likes of SVV, Sparta Rotterdam, Ajax, AC Milan, FC Barcelona and Chelsea. He was member of the Ajax side who won the UEFA Champions League in 1995.

With Chelsea, he garnered worldwide attention as, although he received almost no playing time (no Premier League appearances in his last three seasons combined), he preferred to see out his lucrative contract. In the end, he only appeared 11 times during his four-year spell at Chelsea, reportedly earning £40,000 a week during this period.

At the international level, he scored no goals in 20 caps for Netherlands, also representing his country at the UEFA Euro 1996 and the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.

He returned to Ajax in 2017, being named assistant manager at their reserves under former teammate Michael Reiziger .

Winston Lloyd Bogarde is 49 today.
