FROM HERO TO VILLIAN
On This Day In 1973, England where held to a 1-1 draw by Poland at Wembley Stadium. This meant the Three Lions failed to qualify for the 1974 World Cup. This was also the first time England had failed to qualify for a World Cup tournament. This was Sir Alfred Ramsey's(pictured) last game in charge of the Three Lions as he was subsequently sacked on 1 May 1974. It could be recalled that Ramsey led England to their World Cup triumph in 1966, the Three Lions first and only World Cup trophy. He was also coach of the Three Lions' squad that finished third at the 1968 European Championship.
