He made no first-team appearances during his seven year spell(2012-2019) with Chelsea. He has played for the likes of ADO Den Haag, Middlesborough, Kasimpasa, Alanyaspor and Leganés(all on loan).

He was a member of the Golden Eaglets side that finished second at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup. He also played for the Nigerian Under-20 team that reached the quarter-finals at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia. At the senior level, he has earned 51 caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria since making his senior international debut in 2013. He featured in all of Nigeria's matches at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as the Super Eagles went on to win the competition for the third time in their history. He scored his first goal for Nigeria in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations match against Guinea as the Super Eagles won the Bronze medal after beating Tunisia 1-0 to finished as the third best team of the tournament.

He currently plays Leganés in the Spanish La Liga.
