On This Day In 1989, 26-year-old Frank Stephen Bunn scored six goals as Oldham Athletic thrashed Scarborough FC 7-0 in the third round of the League Cup. To date, this remains the League Cup record for most goals by a player in a single match. In 1990, Bunn was forced to retire from professional football because of injury.
